THEMORUS

2025 THE BALLORY, BALLOR 1, Berlin, Germany

2024 ZONAMACO, Yam Gallery & C34, Mexico City, Mexico

Ash Austin and Obvioquesi, the American/Chilean duo, present their new project THEMORUS for Zonamaco 2024 with Yam Gallery. THEMORUS presents a stark audiovisual and photographic exploration that challenges the limits of thought and confronts the delusions of reason. It compels us to contemplate the consequences of our actions as we shape the world around us, and to question whether we hold the reins of a future brimming with both promise and peril.

THEMORUS includes a photographic series semi-altered by .ai algorithms, resulting in a sort of blurring of reality leaving the viewer unsure of what is real and what is not. The13 min video art piece, narrated by Mexican musician La Bruja de Texcoco, transports us to a future fractured by the very advancements we pursued. Humanity, adrift in a sea of isolation and alienation, grapples with the consequences of a corrupted soul of science. The project dares to unveil a world where our creations, born from the same wellspring of reason that ignited our progress, have become warped reflections, tormenting us with the unnerving possibility of our own obsolescence. At the heart of THEMORUS lies a profound question: are we the masters of our technological destiny, or have we become puppets dancing to the strings of our own ingenuity? This critical interrogation resonates with profound urgency as we contemplate is it them or is it us?
