ARTOR EGO

2023 ZONAMACO, Yam Gallery & C34, Mexico City, Mexico

ARTOR EGO is a photographic, audiovisual exploration of identity and how the ego affects our exploration of it. Exploring various real-life personalities, from an aspiring actress, a drag queen named Furiosa, the infamous La Bruja de Texcoco, to a young Belgian artist contemplating his own identity. The project aims to create a social x-ray of how the ego dreams and behaves, adopting abstract thought whilst traveling through a dream-like world.

The exhibition establishes a direct dialogue with complex layers into the subconscious: existentialism, violence, the false, sexuality and the dynamic of searching for one’s true identity, or in some cases multiple identities. Each montage narrates personal experiences written by the artist, inviting the viewer to contemplate the space between thought, to transcend in a discursive style, what happens with conscious existentialism when it moves away from emotional ties. In this way, the final work exposes the dimension of awareness in each identity with ontological questions of the human being and the complexity of their dynamics.
